The Mating Dance of the Blue Footed Booby
The Galapagos Islands is a beautiful ecosystem full of amazing animals that can’t be observed almost anywhere else. One such animal is the graceless, adorable blue-footed booby – a marine bird that uses the islands as a nesting spot. Their mating antics and comfort around humans make them a favourite among tourists, but the fragility of their environment means even the people who don’t get to see them up close have to make the right choices to protect them.
In our continued effort to preserve the Spiny Softshell Turtles, Dispenser Amenities will again be supporting The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) for the fourth consecutive year. Spiny Softshell Turtles continue to be listed as one of the most highly Endangered Species in all of Canada. The Thames River in London, Ontario, Canada is one of the few remaining nesting grounds for Spiny Softshell Turtles in the region and the focal point for the efforts of UTRCA.
The incubators we supply integrate into the UTRCA hatchery, a facility in which collected eggs are protected, hatched, and released into the wild. We are excited to attend the release of the Turtles into the wilderness later this Spring.
Just this past month amateurs and professional birdwatchers alike began flocking to Alabama as the report of sighting a rare Yellow Cardinal hit the national headlines. The Yellow Cardinal, a unique mutation of the more common Red Cardinal, is a must see for many serious birders who took to the road to try and catch a photo.
Its beautiful yellow feathers are a result of an uncommon genetic variation that blocks the ability to assimilate red hues. This rare bird is also in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list of threatened species. If you couldn’t make the trip, don’t worry, Dispenser Amenities has assembled a quick birdwatcher’s guide with some facts you can enjoy.
